An Italian table without balsamic vinegar and olive oil is unthinkable, but as with all the best things in life there is no small difference between good and great.
This led to a quest at Ponti’s HQ; find the best balsamic and olive oil and pop it into our own bottles to guarantee consistent quality and authenticity. “As they are such iconic products, we spent plenty of time searching and tasting different variations from Italy,” said Gabi Bassi, the buyer at Ponti’s Italian Kitchen.
“We’ve selected a superior, high quality extra virgin olive oil from Southern Puglia in Italy, cold pressed from three types of olive, Coratina, Ogliarola and Peranzane. It has a perception of green tomato and a slightly peppery aftertaste. It’s fresh and fragrant, with a full-bodied and harmonious taste of just cropped oil and a golden green colour.”
Gabi continued: “Our balsamic comes of course from Modena in Emilia-Romagna, rubber stamped with the IGP mark (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) which tells you that it is the best of the best. It has a gorgeous smooth, rich flavour, well balanced, fruity and with zing, yet mellow enough to add the touch of sweetness needed.”
Try them for yourself on your next visit to our restaurants and get that oh-so-recognisable taste of the Italian table.
