He sounds like an AC Milan centre forward, hails from the idyllic island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples, started his career in the Hotel Moresco on the island, but is now a supervisor at Ponti’s Italian Kitchen in Oxford Circus: Nico Di Costanzo.
He has been working in the food and beverage industry for 13 years, yet is just 28, which shows just how much he loves his craft. “Nico joined us as a bartender three years ago,” said General Manager Rob Hennerbry. “Right from the start he listened and learned, working his way up the business. He displays brilliant knowledge of his product and has a natural understanding of customer service and is an invaluable asset to the management team.
“Nico takes up the story: “The most satisfying aspect of the job has to be working with the people, both customers and staff. We have to work as a team and when everything comes together our guests will have a great time, how simple is that?”
In suggesting a 1-2 of favourite dishes, he’d point you toward the prawn linguini, ably assisted with a glass of Falanghina, or the pork belly with Montepulciano. He also has a secret fitness regime that allows him to maintain his high-energy approach and racing whippet figure.
